She works across Inyo and Mono Counties to help communities, local governments, fire departments, land managers, Tribes, and other partners work together to reduce wildfire risk and move good projects from ideas to implementation.
A big part of Kristen’s work is connecting people, ideas, and resources that have historically operated in separate lanes. She helps communities identify what they need, brings the right partners to the table, develops projects, finds funding, and builds the structure needed to carry that work through. As one of the lead coordinators of the Eastern Sierra Wildfire Alliance, she is helping build a regional framework for identifying priorities, developing projects, coordinating partners, and creating a stronger pipeline of wildfire resilience work.
Kristen also leads the Eastern Sierra Community Wildfire Defense Project, which is implementing the region’s first full-cycle approach to community fuels removal. The project is built around three practical questions: Do residents know what they need to do on their properties? Do they have the means to do that work? And once hazardous material is removed, how do we get it out of communities in a way that creates value and reinvests in our local communities, economy, and land? The five-year effort connects education and home assessments with hands-on fuels work, volunteer-led community cleanups, green waste removal, workforce development, and regional systems for beneficial reuse.
Before moving into regional wildfire coordination, Kristen worked in trails, fire, botany, and recreation with the U.S. Forest Service, as well as in conservation corps and collegiate outdoor leadership programs. That field-based background continues to shape her focus on practical implementation, local capacity, and work that has a visible benefit on the ground.
At the center of Kristen’s work is a belief that wildfire resilience starts with people and relationships. Wildfire has a way of cutting across jurisdictions, politics, and institutions, creating common ground around challenges that are too big for any one community or organization to solve alone. Her work focuses on turning that common ground into lasting partnerships, stronger local capacity, and practical systems that make it easier to act. The goal is to build a regional model that gets good work done, gives residents a meaningful role in reducing wildfire risk, and creates a greater sense of agency and hope.
