Who’s in the directory?
The directory includes a host of products and services from fences, gutters, siding, roofing, and vents to brush removal, goat grazing, tree removal, land management, and more. It also includes Wildfire Risk Assessors to help you understand your unique property needs for fire safety. Generally, businesses fall into these five categories:

How are businesses reviewed?
Each business that applies to be a “Reviewed” Fire Safe Business Directory participant undergoes a thorough review process by CFSC. Reviewed businesses are checked for current:
- Liability and workers compensation insurance
- Business license
- Contractor license(s), where applicable
- Three positive references or online third-party reviews
- USDA Certification of Debarment and Suspension form
Listings with the “CFSC Reviewed” badge have met all review requirements.

CFSC does not endorse, recommend, certify, warrant, or guarantee any product, business, or service listed, including without limitation their quality, safety, effectiveness, compliance with applicable laws or codes, or fitness for any particular purpose. Users are requested to do their own due diligence prior to hiring. Organizations utilizing public funds must follow federal and state procurement guidelines.
What is a Wildfire Risk Assessor?
A Wildfire Risk Assessor is someone with the training and knowledge to identify wildfire risk areas on your land, home, and/or community in the event of a wildfire. These include things like tree limbs over your roof, combustible fences attached to your home, and overgrown dry shrubs too close to your home. Many assessors have been certified through the National Fire Protection Association’s Certified Wildfire Mitigation Specialist program, similar programs, or are retired firefighters. They also may adhere to the Institute for Business and Home Safety Institute’s Wildfire Prepared Home guidelines. These practitioners’ main purpose is to offer a written report prioritizing and recommending work to make your home or community fire safe and fire ready.
We list two types of Assessors in the directory. Wildfire Risk Assessors Only provide an assessment report as a roadmap for you to follow and implement, either with or without outside service providers. It may include DIY activities for low-cost solutions or the need for professional services which you can find in the directory. Wildfire Risk Assessors + Product/Service Solutions provide an assessment report as well as specific products and/or services they offer.
Tips for Hiring Contractors and Other Providers
The Contractor State License Board recommends only hiring state-licensed contractors. Reviewed businesses in the directory have already been checked for valid, current licenses. To check other businesses that have not been reviewed in the directory, go to www.cslb.ca.gov. For both contractors and other service or product providers, take the time to get at least three bids. You may want to use our Request a Quote form to obtain multiple bids from businesses in the directory quickly. Check references with all. And make sure all project expectations are in writing and only sign the contract if you completely understand the terms, including payment, which should be paid in full after the successful completion of the job.
