State Fire Marshal Tonya Hoover and I are pleased to announce the appointment of Dennis Mathisen as the new Chief of State Fire Training.
Dennis has been a member of the fire service for 31 years having started his career with the American River Fire Protection District in 1985. Dennis worked for 14 years as the Division Chief/Fire Marshal for the City of Roseville Fire Department. He is a Type 1 information officer and has served on two of CAL FIRE’s incident management teams. Dennis currently serves as the Chief of Public Education for CAL FIRE managing various statewide educational outreach programs.
Dennis has been actively engaged in regional and statewide fire service activities throughout his career. He has been an Executive Board member of the Sacramento Regional Fire Prevention Officer’s Association and the California Fire Chief’s Association, Fire Prevention Officer’s Section, Northern Division. Dennis was also active with the Sacramento-Sierra Arson Task Force, the Sacramento Area Youth Firesetter Intervention Program and the Greater Sacramento Area Fireworks Task Force.
Dennis holds an Associate’s Degree in Fire Technology and a Bachelor’s Degree in Management and he is certified as a Chief Officer, Fire Marshal, Fire Officer and Fire Investigator by the California State Board of Fire Services. Dennis is an active Fire Technology instructor for Sierra College in Placer County.
Dennis, his wife Jennifer and their two children currently resides in Roseville and are actively involved in the community.
