Saturday, May 7 was a special day as CFSC, the Fire Safe Council of Nevada County and Farmers Insurance presented a Fire Prevention Day at Fire Station #2 on the Grass Valley Sierra College site in Grass Valley.
More than 150 families, Fire Safe Council representatives and residents came out on a drizzly day to tour the more than 20 booths, attend live demonstrations, hear presenters from CA Fire Safe Council, Farmers Insurance, BLM, US Forest Service, CAL Fire and OES discuss the importance of being fire ready.
There were demonstrations on fire extinguishers, fire truck apparatus (3 fire trucks were on the tarmac) from Cal Fire and the Nevada County Fire Department, the Farmers bus, Phos Chek, PG&E, the Red Cross, a bucket truck for emergency tree removal situation and pet microchipping by Humane Society.
The highlight of the day was the live broadcast done by KVMR, Nevada Co. Radio Station. The station broadcast interviews and presentations from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to more than 10,000 listeners.

In addition, KCRA Channel 3, Sacramento did a full news feature on the event at the site May 4. It played the next day at 6 a.m., noon, 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.
