DESCRIPTION:“Learn the steps to take to lower your wildfire risk! This interactive workshop will help you create an action plan to protect your home. \nThe Ventura Regional Fire Safe Council has partnered with the Ventura Land Trust to offer this free workshop. This event is open to the public and is suitable for all ages. \nThis workshop will take place at 6pm on Tuesday\, August 29\, 2023\, at the Poinsettia Pavilion at 3451 Foothill Rd\, Ventura\, CA 93003. \nSummary: Wildfires have grown in size and impact in Ventura County in the last several years\, such as the Thomas Fire\, which burned 281\,893 acres and 1\,063 structures\, and Woolsey Fire\, which burned 97\,000 acres and 670 structures. \nHow would this workshop help protect my home? Based on the latest science from the Insurance Institute for Home & Safety (IBHS)\, the structure and vegetation modification recommendations given by their team may reduce your home’s wildfire risk up to 75%. Recommendations made during this workshop could include affordable actions such as removing debris from gutters\, or larger actions such as trimming back overhanging trees. \nFunding for this Project provided by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection’s Fire Prevention Program as part of the California Climate Investments Program. \nAbout Ventura Regional Fire Safe Council: Ventura Regional Fire Safe Council is a 501c3 nonprofit whose mission is to reduce wildfire threats to farms\, ranches\, urban neighborhoods\, and infrastructure through an aggressive program of action\, education\, and collaboration. \nThis event is free\, open to the public and is suitable for all ages.” \nREGISTER HERE

Cal Poly’s Swanton Pacific Ranch has long served to train students and the greater community about how to steward a working mixed Douglas fir and redwood forests in California’s central coast. In 2020\, the CZU Lightning Complex Fire raged through that forest\, with moderate to severe impacts. How do we best restore a scorched forest to guarantee sustainable redwood harvest and healthy watersheds for future generations? \nJoin us for a webinar focused on post-wildfire forest health treatments on Thursday\, July 20th from 10:00am-12:00pm. Dr. Grey Hayes\, Program Director of Cal Poly’s Fuels and Vegetation Education program\, Research and Education Manager at Swanton Pacific Ranch\, and restoration ecologist will outline the ecological and fire history at Swanton Pacific Ranch (SPR)\, describe the treatments conducted post-wildfire\, and provide lessons learned throughout the process.
