This interactive workshop will help you create an action plan to protect your home. \nThe Ventura Regional Fire Safe Council has partnered with the Ventura Land Trust to offer this free workshop. This event is open to the public and is suitable for all ages. \nThis workshop will take place at 6pm on Tuesday\, August 29\, 2023\, at the Poinsettia Pavilion at 3451 Foothill Rd\, Ventura\, CA 93003. \nSummary: Wildfires have grown in size and impact in Ventura County in the last several years\, such as the Thomas Fire\, which burned 281\,893 acres and 1\,063 structures\, and Woolsey Fire\, which burned 97\,000 acres and 670 structures. \nHow would this workshop help protect my home? Based on the latest science from the Insurance Institute for Home & Safety (IBHS)\, the structure and vegetation modification recommendations given by their team may reduce your home’s wildfire risk up to 75%. Recommendations made during this workshop could include affordable actions such as removing debris from gutters\, or larger actions such as trimming back overhanging trees. \nFunding for this Project provided by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection’s Fire Prevention Program as part of the California Climate Investments Program. \nAbout Ventura Regional Fire Safe Council: Ventura Regional Fire Safe Council is a 501c3 nonprofit whose mission is to reduce wildfire threats to farms\, ranches\, urban neighborhoods\, and infrastructure through an aggressive program of action\, education\, and collaboration. \nThis event is free\, open to the public and is suitable for all ages.” \nREGISTER HERE

The conference will be held from October 24-26\, 2023\, in Ventura County at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. \nParticipants are drawn from California\, Western US States\, and globally where wildfire and communities interface.  Attendees include local and national government agencies/leaders\, natural resource managers/landowners\, California Tribes\, community leaders/organizations\, and multi-sectoral collaboratives/councils. \nWe invite Firewise/Firesafe Councils and Collaboratives who are developing wildfire adaptation and mitigation plans and implementing solutions. This event will be open to 200 in-person attendees\, and select sessions will be recorded and shared after the conference.

Participants will increase their understanding of how CALFIRE used the CalVTP at Vista Del Rio to facilitate vegetation management and fuels reduction. \nParticipants will complete a field treatment tour of the project area\, learning about the different treatment methods used and why they were chosen. Sebastien Cordier\, Madera-Mariposa-Merced Unit Environmental Scientist at CAL FIRE\, and Brian Mattos\, Madera-Mariposa-Merced Unit Forester at CAL FIRE\, will discuss the need for this project\, how the treatment zones were selected\, and the successes as well as the shortcomings that happened while implementing this project.
