SUMMARY:Third National Cohesive Wildland Fire Management Strategy Workshop
DESCRIPTION:To maintain and strengthen meaningful progress towards this vision\, the 3rd Annual National Cohesive Strategy Workshop will provide a forum unlike others for collaborative interaction.  It will provide an innovative\, shared-learning environment for exploration\, discussion\, understanding\, brainstorming\, connection and collaboration around the issues we must face to improve outcomes related to wildland fire.  It will allow stakeholders to understand their roles and the opportunities for outcome-based approaches through continued and active implementation of the National Cohesive Strategy and how this will allow us to define a future with wildland fire as a key component of healthy ecosystems that meet social and management requirements.

SUMMARY:Symposium: Climate Change and the Ecology of Sierra Nevada Forests
DESCRIPTION:Co-Sponsored by The Sierra Nevada Research Institute and Western North American Naturalist.\nThis symposium will focus on the responses of Sierra Nevada forest organisms and ecosystems to increasing climate stresses. Talks and posters featuring either formal scientific studies or well-documented natural history observations are welcome. Presentations focusing on forest-adjacent ecosystems such as meadows and rivers are also welcome. \nPotential topics could include: \n\nInfluence of climate change on fire frequency\, intensity\, and/or species responses to fire\nEffects of total precipitation vs. snow amount on vegetation and streamflow\nTree reproduction and seedling recruitment under changing conditions\nAnimal responses to increasing temperature and drought\nConservation genetics of keystone or rare Sierra Nevada species under climate change\nDispersal ability and connectivity between protected areas under climate change\nPublic understanding of climate change impacts on the Sierra Nevada mountains\nChallenges in managing species/ecosystems under changing condition\, or techniques for doing so- ….and many others!\n\nParticipants will be invited to submit a paper related to their talk or poster to a special issue of Western North American Naturalist by May 2020; our aim is to gather at least 15 such papers. We also aim to have a diversity of institutions (academic and non-academic)\, career stages\, focal organisms and ecosystems\, and human demographics (age\, gender\, race/ethnicity\, etc.) represented – therefore please share this announcement widely!

SUMMARY:CalVTP Webinar
DESCRIPTION:The California Vegetation Treatment Program Draft Programmatic Environmental Impact Report (CalVTP)  is a statewide document proposed by the Board of Forestry and Fire Protection which is intended to increase efficiency in the CEQA analysis that is required to implement projects focused to reduce fuels and improve wildfire resiliency on non-federal lands located within the State Responsibility Area. It is now available for a 45-day public review and comment until August 9\, 2019. \nThe Board of Forestry will host a webinar to provide information on the CalVTP on July 11\, 2019 at 10:30am. Participants may access the webinar by registering online at https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/611618035943889676  (Comments on the CalVTP will not be received at the webinar.) \nComments on the draft document are requested to be submitted at the earliest possible date to mailto:CalVTP@bof.ca.gov\, and no later than August 9\, 2019. The CalVTP is available for download from the Board’s website: https://bofdata.fire.ca.gov/projects-and-programs/calvtp/.
